Clarissa Rizal's Collector's Edition Giclee reproduction prints are affordable, traditional and contemporary, Alaskan Tlingit art printed from the originals on high quality acid-free art papers or canvas using Epson's Sylus Pro 7880 large-format printer and Epson's Ultrachrome K3 inks. All reproductions are printed by the artist for artistic and quality control. Reproductions are a limited Collector's Edition, signed and numbered by the artist. Canvas prints will be shipped insured in a large mailing tube; the fine art paper prints will be shrinkwrapped with a black foam core backing, packed, insured and shipped in a box.

 

Note: 8% of the sales from each print will be donated to a non-profit organization - local, regional, or national. The art image corresponds with the mission statement of each individual non-profit organization.

The humanitarian language of the brother Ravens inspired Bob to return back to his council meeting with the reminder that our elders are a precious resource and we must remember to honor their wisdom. Glaciers are the oldest living water on earth; their wisdom is caught in a frozen language.

Between 1983 and 2010, Clarissa designed and created more than 50 Tlingit ceremonial robes in the button blanket style, Ravenstail weavings and the Chilkat dance robes. Keeping with the Tlingit tradition, each robe conveys a message, story or clan identity. This practical guide provides Chilkat weavers of all experience levels pertinent information gained from Clarissa’s apprenticeship in 1986 with the last traditional Chilkat weaver, Jennie Thlunaut; combined with Clarissa’s experiences as a weaver and a teacher of this traditional art form, with additional information from Jennie’s daughter, Agnes Bellinger. Most of the information in this handbook can also be applied to Ravenstail weaving. With black & white, color photos and drawings, some of the information includes: Jennie’s astounding fingering technique (for speed, accuracy and tension), her philosophies, traditions, values and tricks-of-the-trade, Clarissa’s story of her apprenticeship with Jennie, preparation of materials and supplies, natural & commercial dyeing, weft color samples, list of suppliers, a traveler's weaving loom pattern; designs and descriptions; and, keeping with traditions, some of the information is shared with a touch of storytelling. This handbook is intended for use by either an experienced weaver who is seeking some additional information in Chilkat weaving, or utilized as a supplemental guide with a weaving instructor.

The Sun is rising with each human being a ray of light, each carrying a representation of our community: human w/spear=gathering from the sea; human w/basket=gathering from the land; human with T'naa=history, culture, wealth & art; human w/child on back=family, generations; human w/walking staff=our elders, leading the way on the path of our ancestors' trail; humans are traveling in the same direction as the salmon=living according to Nature and the cycle of life.
