{"id":1136,"date":"2010-12-17T12:00:46","date_gmt":"2010-12-17T08:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/?p=1136"},"modified":"2010-12-18T21:20:36","modified_gmt":"2010-12-18T17:20:36","slug":"december-18th-two-years-since-william-boyd-lampes-passing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/december-18th-two-years-since-william-boyd-lampes-passing\/","title":{"rendered":"December 18th &#8211; Two Years Since His Passing"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1137\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/36DadsHands.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1137\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1137\" title=\"36DadsHands\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/36DadsHands.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/36DadsHands.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/36DadsHands-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1137\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Working Man&#39;s Hands<\/p><\/div>\n<p>At the request of my aging parents, I left my sweet &#8220;empty nest&#8221; home\u00a0  in Colorado and\u00a0 returned to Juneau in 2007.\u00a0 I know I made the right decision; no doubt about it.\u00a0 My parents never asked me to come home before until then, so I knew they were feeling their age, their vulnerability to getting real old. \u00a0 \u00a0 I&#8217;ve had an innate knowing that\u00a0 significant others may come and go but not your parents, and  nor your children.\u00a0 I am glad I made this time to spend with my mother  and father. \u00a0\u00a0 My parents were 78 and 83 years old then; my\u00a0 father was still  gardening and my mother was still walking 3 miles a day.<\/p>\n<p>They felt too  old to travel alone\u00a0 like they used to every Summer.\u00a0 So, I took them on  a couple of trips, a drive to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory and the other  to Hoonah (my mother&#8217;s hometown, and my father said he hadn&#8217;t been  there since the passing of his mother-in-law, my grandmother, who passed  away in 1976).\u00a0 At least twice a week I took my parents on walks and picnics around  Juneau:\u00a0 Lena Loop, Eagle Beach and Sandy Beach.\u00a0 I was surprised to discover that my father hadn&#8217;t ever been on many of the trails:\u00a0 Treadwell Mine,  Mendenhall River walk, Basin Road&#8217;s flume, Perseverance Trail, Twin  Lakes.\u00a0 I felt privileged to introduce him to these new experiences.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1138\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/07DadParka.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1138\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1138\" title=\"07DadParka\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/07DadParka.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/07DadParka.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/07DadParka-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1138\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">William B. Lampe in his (what he called, Big Bear) mutton fur parka - Winter 2007<\/p><\/div>\n<p>My father&#8217;s passing two years ago December 18th was the beginning of many major tumultuous turns in my life..\u00a0 I am currently temporarily settled down; enough to\u00a0 finally mourn his passing.\u00a0 Outside of doing my art and being with a friend now and then, and hanging out with my grand-daughter or mother, I&#8217;ve been experiencing melancholia.\u00a0 I am not at all motivated to put up any Christmas decorations whatsoever.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t even bought any Christmas lights; this is the first time in my entire life I have not put up not even a strand of lights, and if it hasn&#8217;t happened now, it ain&#8217;t gonna happen. \u00a0 Thank goodness my brother Rick is setting up the tree.\u00a0 He does these tasks not for himself, but for our Mother. \u00a0 Out of the back shed, he&#8217;s also pulled out the big container of lights and&#8230;the famous Bill Lampe globe lamps.<\/p>\n<p>My father was an avid Christmas decorator.\u00a0 By Thanksgiving, his 30 ft. trees in the front yard were heavily adorned with lights. \u00a0 He trimmed all the windows AND the ceiling trim with fake evergreen &#8211; and this was throughout the entire house.\u00a0 As if he didn&#8217;t have enough lights, he roamed Fred Meyer&#8217;s aisles for sport&#8230;&#8221;Let&#8217;s see,&#8230;now where are those Italian lights, they are the best&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 Now I know where I get this behavior, this focus, this intensity.\u00a0 Gawd.\u00a0 Ask my kids, they&#8217;ll tell you.\u00a0 However, I was never this extravagant.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1139\" style=\"width: 427px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Dad_Globe_Lamps1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1139\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1139\" title=\"Dad_Globe_Lamps1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Dad_Globe_Lamps1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"417\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Dad_Globe_Lamps1.jpg 417w, https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Dad_Globe_Lamps1-250x300.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 417px) 100vw, 417px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1139\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Once he created his first globe lamp, what 10 years ago(?), he was a fanatic - he spent many nights creating just one lamp.
