\u00a0\u00a0Past Gatherings have been held in Hoonah, Juneau, Sitka, Haines, Alert Bay, Prince Rupert, and Pagosa Springs. \u00a0We are excited to be hosted in Whitehorse. \u00a0Chilkat and Ravenstail weaver, Ann Smith, Wolf Clan of the Kwaan Lin Dun people in Whitehorse, will be our local weaver \u00a0\u201cambassador.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2911\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/AnnSmith2003.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2911\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2911\" title=\"AnnSmith2003\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/AnnSmith2003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/AnnSmith2003.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/AnnSmith2003-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2911\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ann Smith begins weaving a Ravenstail robe while a Navajo weaver looks on &#8211; she is demonstrating weaving at the Heard Museum&#8217;s Indian Art Fair &amp; Market &#8211; March 2003<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Gathering \u00a0will be held in the Cultural Center\u2019s Elder\u2019s Room kitty-corner on the left from the main hall where all the festival performances will be held. \u00a0The room is all glass allowing an ample amount of natural light.<\/p>\n<p>The Adaka Festival Co-Executive Producer, Charlene Alexander is very excited about hosting the Weavers\u2019 Gathering as part of their festival activities this year. \u00a0Currently, Charlene is working on finding a large house where all of us may stay, and\/or depending on number of participants, she will find locals who are willing to host us. \u00a0However, if you need your space and privacy, there are several hotels and motels available, and I would suggest you book sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n<p>As in the past, each weaver is responsible for their transportation to and from the Gathering. \u00a0If you want grant assistance, applications for Alaskan residents may be obtained at the Alaska State Council on the Arts and the Rasmuson Foundation are due in just three weeks this coming March 1st. \u00a0\u00a0Also the New England Foundation for the Arts\u2019 <em>Native Arts Program<\/em> has a travel grant with the stipulation that they must receive your application 2 months before travel date. \u00a0It\u2019s a fairly simple application and these people are helpful and generous. \u00a0(In the past four years, I have applied and received this travel grant twice.) \u00a0Because I am not Canadian, I am not familiar with the Canadian grants available, but I KNOW they are out there!
