Clarissa Rizal<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I first heard about the beautiful Blanco River Basin from my friend, Nancy Vidal who has lived in Juneau, Alaska for nearly 40 years.\u00a0 When I moved to Pagosa Springs, Colorado 21 years ago, she said her family had a home in the Upper Blanco Basin.\u00a0 In fact, we met a a few folks who still live in the basin who grew up with Nancy and her family. \u00a0 A couple of days ago, I spent an afternoon with Dan in the Basin during a sunny, early Springtime day.\u00a0 Dan enjoyed his time photographing this awesome landscape while I did my very first landscape drawing.\u00a0 Such a fine day!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4100\" style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/SquareTop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4100\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4100\" title=\"SquareTop\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/SquareTop.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/SquareTop.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/SquareTop-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4100\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">According to one of the few resident&#8217;s perspective of Square Top Mountain in the Blanco Basin, &#8220;&#8230;this is the front side of the mountain&#8230;&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I felt right at home here in the Basin with big mountains, some scarred with barren slopes of glacial markings and others covered with evergreens; the Blanco River ran clear and steady sparkling in the sun like Alaska on a rare sunny day.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4104\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/BlancoRiver.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4104\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4104\" title=\"BlancoRiver\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/BlancoRiver.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/BlancoRiver.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/BlancoRiver-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4104\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Upper Blanco River;
