{"id":4495,"date":"2014-10-09T00:04:07","date_gmt":"2014-10-08T20:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/?p=4495"},"modified":"2014-10-07T02:37:49","modified_gmt":"2014-10-06T22:37:49","slug":"stanton-englehart-one-of-my-most-favorite-painters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/stanton-englehart-one-of-my-most-favorite-painters\/","title":{"rendered":"Stanton Englehart:  A Favorite Contemporary Painter"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_4496\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/EnglehartBookCover.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4496\" class=\"wp-image-4496 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blogblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/EnglehartBookCover.jpg\" alt=\"EnglehartBookCover\" width=\"500\" height=\"471\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/EnglehartBookCover.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.clarissarizal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/EnglehartBookCover-300x282.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4496\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Book cover of Stanton Englehart&#8217;s &#8220;A Life on Canvas&#8221; published by the Spiralbound Studio Publishing in Durango, Colorado &#8212; Detail of Stanton&#8217;s painting entitled &#8220;Season on the Plateau&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last week, when Dan, his parents and I were in the Toh-Atin Gallery of Native American Art in Durango, I came across this book and said to Dan that I totally admire this guy&#8217;s paintings; over the past few years every time I&#8217;ve seen this man&#8217;s work, just makes my heart pitter-patter&#8230;and I know that when I feel that feeling, it&#8217;s called love.<\/p>\n<p>And then without even opening the book, I said to Dan &#8220;&#8230;can you show me what is your favorite piece of art in this gallery&#8230;?&#8221;\u00a0 (I asked him that because every time Dan and I go to an art show, an art fair, an art market, or to any gallery, anywhere,\u00a0 we always like the same exact piece(s) of art&#8230;!&#8221;\u00a0 So Dan led me directly to a large painting towards the back of the Toh-Atin gallery above a stairwell.\u00a0 Low and behold, it was a Stanton Englehart&#8212;!\u00a0 What did I tell ya!?\u00a0 After checking out the rest of the gallery art works in Navajo rugs, jewelry, pottery, sculpture and other paintings, again, Dan and I like the same exact piece of art picked out of thousands in a gallery! \u00a0\u00a0 So of course, I had to buy the book because I will study every painting in this book and Stanton&#8217;s painting style will influence my next set of paintings!<\/p>\n<p>Stanton&#8217;s paintings are not acrylics on canvas; they are oil on canvas.\u00a0 My daughter Ursala, who has been working in oil paintings for the past couple of years since her classes at Ft. Lewis College in Durango, has been encouraging me to drop acrylics and go into oils.\u00a0 I will do so after I use up my $500 worth of acrylic paints; I refuse to let them go to waste!<\/p>\n<p>Who is Stanton Englehart?\u00a0 Stanton is a dedicated prolific artist for over 50 years.\u00a0 He is a celebrated painter of the landscapes of the Colorado Plateau.\u00a0 Englehart&#8217;s vision has been carried worldwide.\u00a0 His vividly hued paintings are held in collections in Germany, Canada and across the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>He is known for his passion as an educator.\u00a0 Throughout his thirty-year teaching career at Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, Engleheart inspired students and faculty alike.\u00a0 Upon his retirement, he was granted the title of Professor Emeritus of Art.<\/p>\n<p>This book project was initiated by the Durango Arts Center and brought into print by Durango-based Spiralbound Studio Publishing in association with the Ft. Lewis College Foundation.\u00a0 Proceeds from book sales will benefit the Stanton Englehart Scholarship Fund for art students at Ft.
